From neighbourhood cleanups to recycling efforts to sponsoring special
events, Waste Management employees across Canada have big plans
to celebrate Earth Day in 2004.
"With our operations spanning across Canada, we maintain
a strong local commitment to the communities we serve," said
Dan Pio, President, Waste Management of Canada. "We are involved
in local community organizations and participate in numerous activities
and initiatives, plus our employees volunteer in many ways in
their communities throughout the year as they live, work and raise
their families in these communities."
While Earth Day officially falls on April 22, the company will
be active in weeks following the actual date with various events
from coast to coast. In a number of communities, Waste Management
and its employees are partnering with their public sector customers
to initiate cleanups in and around their respective communities
to emphasize recycling education and waste reduction.
"It's a great opportunity for Waste Management to partner
with its customers while promoting Earth Day and helping the community,"
stated Pio. "After all, supporting communities - making them
cleaner, safer and stronger - is what our company is all about."
