Waste Management Officially Opens New
Courtice Transfer Station
CLARINGTON, ONTARIO - Waste
Management announced the official opening of its new Courtice
transfer station today.
"We are very pleased to be able to assist
the Region of Durham in effectively managing their waste and supporting
their overall waste management plan," said Rick Growden,
Waste Management Market Area General Manager for the Greater Toronto
Area. "We look forward to continuing to provide the Region
of Durham and the Town of Clarington with a safe and environmentally
sound waste management operation."
Clarington Mayor John Mutton joined Mr. Growden
and George Field, Waste Management Municipal Development Manager,
Durham Region, in tossing the first bags of waste into the facility
during the opening ceremony. The event was also attended by members
of the Clarington Board of Trade and area officials.
Waste Management's $3.4 million, 21,459 square-foot
transfer station will replace Clarington's existing transfer station,
which is being closed on Tuesday, July 5.
The larger new facility located at 1 McKnight
Road in Courtice will be able to receive 800 tonnes of municipal
solid waste and industrial and commercial waste per day. The facility
is capable of operating 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
Waste Management currently provides the Region
of Durham with recycling and residential, industrial and commercial
waste collection services.
