CIB is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community participation and national competitions.
The Environmental Awareness Award recognizes communities throughout Canada for their achievements in developing initiatives toward environmentally responsible practices and sustainability. Criteria for this award includes environmental efforts made by the municipality, businesses and private citizens of the community including waste reduction, recycling initiatives, conservation and naturalization.
Communities in Bloom have become a national movement encouraging the involvement of citizens to celebrate community achievements and civic pride. The appeal of the program is more than simply visual: as important as this benefit is, the real strength comes from the social impact participation has in building a sense of pride through community involvement. Over the past 10 years, the national finalists and provincial participants have shared knowledge and exchanged information amongst themselves to improve their quality of life and to make our Canadian communities better places to live in, the work in and to visit.
